Frequently Asked Questions

Our Experts Have Answered Your Questions Below

It's advisable to have an eye test every two years. It doesn't only assess your vision. It can also detect health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. School going Children should also have their annual eye examination.

Cataracts can cause blurry vision and increase the glare from lights. If a cataract makes it difficult for you to carry out your normal activities, your doctor may suggest cataract surgery. When a cataract interferes with the treatment of another eye problem, cataract surgery may be recommended.

Once in the operating theatre, your cataract surgery will take 15 minutes and you will be discharged from hospital once you're feeling ready to leave. You'll be at the hospital for no more than four to five hours.

Normally, glands above your eyes make tears that keep your eyes wet. Dry eye happens when your tears don't do their job. This could mean:
Your glands don't make enough tears to keep your eyes wet Your tears dry up too fast Your tears just don't work well enough to keep your eyes wet Excessive use of digital screen and air conditioning is major cause for DRY EYE.

Eye floaters are tiny specks and spots that keep floating in your field of vision. These are annoying at times but usually are harmless. These occur when tiny pieces of the gel-like vitreous of your eyes break loose. However, if you notice flashing spots, then you should immediately consult an eye doctor.

Multifocal and accommodating intraocular lenses are artificial intraocular lenses (IOLs) that are designed to provide focus of both distance and near objects, in contrast to monofocal intraocular lenses which only have one focal point and correct distance vision.Multifocal IOL allow greater spectacle independence after their implantation.

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can cause blindness by damaging your optic nerve With all types of glaucoma, the nerve connecting the eye to the brain is damaged, usually due to high eye pressure.
The most common type of glaucoma (open-angle glaucoma) often has no symptoms other than slow vision loss. Angle-closure glaucoma, although rare, is a medical emergency and its symptoms include eye pain with nausea and sudden visual disturbance. Treatment includes eye drops, medication and surgery.

Good eye health starts with the food on your plate. Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems like macular degeneration and cataracts. To get them, fill your plate with:
Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish Eggs, nuts, beans, and other nonmeat protein sources Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices Oysters and pork A well-balanced diet also helps you stay at a healthy weight. That lowers your odds of obesity and related diseases like type 2 diabetes, which is the leading cause of blindness in adults.

Implantable Collamer Lens or ICL is a new intraocular lens that can be implanted into the eye without removing the natural lens. This lens is an excellent choice for patients with short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. This lens is made from a material called Collamer, a collagen co-polymer that contains a small amount of purified collagen. Since it is stable and biocompatible, the lens is highly safe, soft, flexible and moist. Due to the ICL is implanted through a microscopic incision that requires no stitches, it does not alter the natural shape or health of the cornea.
